The Wildernessđ
Have you ever gone through seasons of drought and felt like you were wandering the desert alone?
Itâs in those seasons your faith is tested like never before. Your spirit thirsty and weary, you just want to make it out of the wilderness and into the next season of life. You are longing to hear the voice of God, but all you get is silence.
Let me tell you there is a lot to learn in the wilderness. Like I said, your faith is tested, your trust in God is tested and you find yourself wondering âam I all alone? Has God abandoned me?â
âThe truth is, the wilderness is a necessary destination for every child of God. In fact, to progress toward a healthy maturity as a disciple of Jesus, you many have several journeys through the wilderness.â
( God, where are you?! )
- John Brevere
There is so much God can teach us in those seasons of drought if we allow Him. The truth is we donât know how long the season will last, maybe months and maybe years. We can either run from God and stop believing in His plan for our lives or we can run to Him and continue to have faith and believe in His promises.
Itâs in those seasons we really have to remind ourselves of the promise that God will never leave us nor forsake us. Even though we may feel like He dropped us off in the desert at times, He is with us. We may not feel His guiding hand in the wilderness, but He is there and He is present, we just have to trust Him.
âThe deserts purpose is quite positive: to train, purify, strengthen, and prepare us for a new move of His Spirit, resulting in us becoming more fruitful.â
( God, where are you?! )
- John Brevere
It can be difficult to see God moving when we are in the midst of it. But I believe the wilderness is a season of preparation for something in our next chapter of life, we may not know what it is or understand it, but if we allow God to work in our heart, He will grow us and give us the strength we need to press on through the desert and into the âpromised landâ.
If we look at the scripture there are so many stories of people going through the wilderness, just to name a few: Paul, Moses, David, Joseph, Job, John the Baptist and even Jesus! They had to go through some incredibly hard seasons in their life, lonely seasons and seasons of loss, heartbreak and betrayal.
I feel like this is the season I am currently in and have been in for a little while, maybe you are too. Itâs not easy, but I know that God is and has been preparing me for something good. I just have to trust Him even though I feel like I canât hear Him at times, I have to believe He is with me even though I donât feel Him. I have to remind myself of His promises, because He is a good, loving and sovereign God.
My advice to you is to continue to seek Him, read His Word, worship and talk to Him. Itâs okay to just sit in the silence, itâs okay to feel sad, donât suppress your emotions, donât try to hide them, God wants you to be real and honest with Him. He wants a relationship with you because He loves you more than you could ever know đ¤ So, press on through the wilderness, and remember Gods promises to you. You are never alone!
âI have observed that this is often the pattern: God shows us great things that He intends to do through us in the future, and then He leads us straight into the wilderness to prepare us.â
